Image
Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey (2012) Director: Narayan Nagendra Rao Casts: Aari, Shubha Phutela Music: Achu Language: Tamil Genre: Romance The lyrical title, ‘Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey’ does spark a curiosity and the successful album (Oh Baby, Yen Uyire, etc.) also plays a part in its expectation by film buffs. The small glimpse of technical excellence seen in the trailer reflects the freshness of the young team. Hyped as an innovative attempt, does it keep his promise? Firstly the debut director Narayan Nagaendra Rao, should be commended to keep his story concise and tell it though an evening at a coffee shop. The treatment of the story oozes with difference and style. It dwells with the problems, love and marriage of different people at a coffee shop. It also deals with even the smallest of joys and the sadness that trivial issues can bring on people’s lives. An interesting premise woven with novelty comes to a halt when the second half starts to

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012)

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012) The Dark Knight Rises is the undoubtedly the most anticipated superhero film of the year, following up the humungous blockbusters, The Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). Said to be the final instalment of Nolan’s Batman series, The Dark Knight fetched much expectations and questions popped up on how the maker going to surpass the top standards of the predecessors. Firstly, comparing The Dark Knight Rises with the predecessor is irrelevant as it stands out on his own with its own prospect and meaning. The final installment is not only the conclusion of the batman saga but also comes up with a punch that everyone who voice out for justice can be a hero. I would say that The Dark Knight Rises is the most meaningful finale achieved for a superhero franchise till date. The film sets after 8 years from the demise of Joker and Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) gets caught up with the new villain Bane (Tom Hardy) who

Naan Ee (2012) Director: S.S. Rajamouli Casts: Nani, Sudeep, Samantha, Santhanam Music: M.M. Keeravani Language: Tamil Genre: Socio-Fantasy ‘Naan Ee’. The title itself reflects innovation and evokes curiosity. The man who created blockbuster hits in Telugu like Magadheera (Maaveeran in Tamil) and Vikramarkudu (Original Siruthai) comes up up with another imaginative content. Naan Ee, which garnered good pre-talks and aggressive marketing, raised its expectation bar, sky high. So does this ‘Ee’ (means housefly in Tamil) managed to sit on our hearts? From the trailer itself, many would have figured out the story. Yes, it is a story of how a young man, Nani (Nani) recarnates into a housefly after getting killed by the rich womaniser, Sudeep, having an evil intention to get Bindu (Samantha). How does Nani as Ee proves his identity and saves Bindu forms the crux of the story. It might sound predictable and amateurish, hearing at instance, but from the trailer
